Feng Shui For Bedroom
The Feng Shui in our bedrooms are important as this is a place for us to rest and recharge after a long day. The energies or "chi" in these rooms will influence the way we think and feel emotionally and subsequently, affect the way we behave and also, our health.
Ideally, the first step is to ensure our bedrooms are located in the positive sectors in the house. However, to determine that, there are a few steps process which you need to learn and this is taught in our Feng Shui Course and Homestudy Program.
Let us place the focus on the internals of the bedroom for now as there are a few good tips you can utilize in the meantime.
| 1. Find your Personal Favorable Direction |
This is done by calculating your Kua Number first followed by the group you belong to as shown below.
Calculating the Kua Number
* If you are a male, add the last 2 digits from your Year of Birth until you get a single digit. Take 10 to minus this number and the resultant is your Kua Number. (Note: If this resultant number is 5, your Kua number should become Kua 2)
* If you are a female, add the llast 2 digits from your Year of Birth until you get a single digit. Take 5 and add to this number and the resultant is your Kua Number. (Note: If this resultant number is 5, your Kua number should become Kua 8)
East and West Grouping
* East Group : You belong to this group if your Kua number is 1, 3, 4 and 9. Your personal favorable directions are North, South, East and Southeast.
* West Group : You belong to this group if your Kua number is 2, 6, 7 and 8. Your personal favorable directions are Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and West.
After finding your personal good directions, you can then move your bed such that your head is pointing towards one of these favorable directions. When moving your bed, we do advice selecting a good date to do this and you can read more under "Date Selection for Moving Bed".
If you are a couple and both of you have different favorable directions, the way most people decide will be base on the one who is the breadwinner for the family.
| 2. Keep The Room Spacious and Clutter free |
Having clutter in the room is not good because it affects the chi flow and over time, the first sign of problem is on health. Therefore, avoid using the same room for work and rest as there's a tendancy for the room to be filled up after some time.
This is a common concern many people have on mirrors and other reflective things like TV. In Feng Shui terms, mirros do not have any impact. In logical ways, I would not use these in the rooms because we do at times wake up half conscious at night and the sudden sight of an image does affect the person and at times, causes fright.
It is important to take note that when sleeping, one should not have their legs pointing towards the door as this can affect health as the 'chi" entering through the door has a direct impact on the person.
If the bed cannot be shifted, place a curtain or partition to block off the flow of direct "chi" between the door and you.
Though it is becoming a common need to have a TV in most rooms, it is not advisable. Watching of TV is considered a "Yang" activity while resting and sleeping are considered "Yin" activity. There should not be a combination of "Yin" and "Yang" activities in ONE room as this affects the purity of the "chi" or energy in it.
It is best to leave TV watching to the living room as this is always a "Yang" sector.
Before you decide on shopping for a nice water feature to place in your room, do be careful to check if "Water" can first be placed in this sector as not all sectors can have water placement. In this current Period 8 (covers Year 2004 to 2023), the sectors that can have "water" are North, Southwest, East and Southeast.
It is also recommended that you get some advice prior to placing any "water" in the room especially if you are married as this might cause unneccessary problems. As water is a body of energy and it works by activating the energies of the sector where it is placed. Without anaylsing whether the energies are positive, the placement of water in the room can cause unexpected situations.
Feng Shui is about energy or "chi" flow. Therefore, the choice of colors in the room will not have any impact on the Feng Shui. Select the ones that's pleasing to the eye and something to your liking.
Colors affect you more through the psychological aspect by influencing the way you feel and behave. You can read more about "Colors" here.
