The Right Spot for "Water"
Water is known to have therapeutic effects hence, many people like to rear fishes, keep water plants and install water features in homes and offices to create a comforting atmosphere. Unknown to many, the effect of water has a relatively large influence on the Feng Shui of a place.
Water by itself is a body of energy as it disperses and moves around freely once they are not contained. Therefore, by keeping a container of water in the house, it activating the energies in the sector where the water is placed. Since it does activate these energies, can you imagine the consequences if these were negative energies?
As such, Water needs to be correctly positioned in any environment.
Below is a summary of the important points to take note of:-
(A) CORRECT SPOT
First and foremost, it's important to determine the CORRECT SPOT to put water. Water can only be placed in the North, Southwest, East and Southeast sectors. To find these respective sectors, stand in the centre of the place and locate these sectors using the compass.
(B) EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT
The surroundings or external environment is also very important in determining if you should have any water in that sector. Even if that sector can have water, it may not be a wise idea if there are any negative structures emitting bad energies or "sha qi" in the external surrounding of that sector.
Here's a case I would like to share. A recent client who came to me said that he started rearing fishes 5 years ago and he bought 4 aquariums for his house. These aquariums were placed in the West sector of the house. Firstly, West is NOT allowed to have water. Secondly, facing this sector outside is another building which is angled such that one of the sharp edges is pointing directly at the West of his house. From the time he bought his aquariums, things started to get worse for his business and subsequently, his relations with his spouse and children also soured.
Hence, it is very important that the above 2 points are checked and reviewed carefully before you start having water features or fish tanks.
(C) SHAPE, STRUCTURE AND SIZE OF CONTAINER
Once you have qualified the above 2 points, you can start your shopping.
Many people are often curious over whether they should invest in an expensive looking container like one in the shape of a dragon or with symbolic features that can cost over a few thousand dollars. It is important to know that it's not the shape of the container that cause the effect on Feng Shui but rather the water that is being contained inside. Hence, if it satisfies you by a simple square shape small fish tank, you can use it by all means as the water will have a similar effect.
The size of the container on the other hand is one important consideration because it must suit the relative size of the place where it is being placed. Try to imagine a big fountain in an apartment or flat compared to one in a landed house. Which is a better fit for the fountain? Naturally the landed house. By having a large water feature in a small place, the noise created by it will be loud hence, creating "sha qi". Therefore, if you live in only a small apartment, it is sufficient just to get a small size container for the effects to be activated.
(D) STILL OR MOVING WATER
It is clearly simple logic to ensure that the water is moving instead of being still. Especially recently in Singapore where dengue fever cases is on the rise due to the breeding of mosquitos.
The movement of the water must be gentle and slow moving and preferably do not cause any loud sound or noises, especially if it is placed in a small surrounding.
(E) CLEANLINESS OF WATER
Last but not least, cleanliness of water is also an important element because dirty water creates foul smell and this in turn, causes the energy to become negative.
Once you have completed the above check list, you can now safely enjoy the therapeutic effects of the water features or fish tanks.
